Whether you are doing residential or commercial cleaning, here are some tips from INTEK and Woman’s Day magazine to make your cleaning easier and faster.

Cleaning your kitchen

General Kitchen Cleaning Tricks:

  • Begin cleaning on the right of your stove and work clockwise (so the stove is cleaned last). The stove is often the dirtiest, so ending with it prevents spreading dirt and grease. Consider presoaking stove knobs and drip pans while you work so they are easier to clean when you get to them.
  • Often sinks have more bacteria than toilet seats. Sanitize your sink by spraying a disinfectant. You can also make your own sanitizer:
    1. Clean the sink with soap and water
    2. Mist vinegar on the sink
    3. Mist hydrogen peroxide on the sink (do not mix the vinegar and hydrogen peroxide)
    4. Let the sink air-dry
  • To make your sink sparkle, add mineral oil to a soft cloth and buff. This does double duty and can deter mold by preventing water build-up.
  • To disinfect your sponge squeeze it out and microwaving it on high for one minute.

Dishwasher Cleaning Tips:

  • To kill bacteria and sanitize dishes add 1/4 cup of bleach to the regular cycle.
  • Preventative care: once a week shake baking soda on a damp sponge and wipe the machine’s edges to remove stuck food or stains.

Garbage Disposal Cleaning:

  • Drop-in a cut-up lemon, salt, and ice cubes. The lemon will deodorize while the salt and ice will clean up the residue.

For Cleaning Residential and Commercial Bathrooms:

  • Rub one teaspoon of lemon oil on glass shower doors to make water bead off.
  • Cleaning the toilet: drop one teaspoon of Tang Drink Mix in the bowl. The acid acts as a scrubber and it’s nontoxic! Let it sit for a few minutes, swish and flush.

Laundry:

  • To get rid of static add 1/4 cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle or add two (clean) tennis balls with your clothes in the dryer.
