But don’t just take our word for it. We interviewed two of our longest- and hardest-working employees, Robert and Tyler, about what it’s like to work at INTEK. Their words speak for themselves:
Tell us about your positions at INTEK.
Tyler: I have been working here for 15 years. I am a carpet cleaner, but I also do water damage restoration, tile and grout cleaning, and whatever else they need me to do.
It’s nice to have a mix once in a while. I prefer carpet cleaning, but I don’t mind a break from it for a day or two!
Robert: I’ve been here for about seven years. I am mainly a carpet cleaner, but I also do water restoration or all kinds of other jobs. It’s never the same job every day.
I came to INTEK because the reputation of the company was really good in Sioux Falls, so I thought I’d check it out. It was something I’d never done before, yet I’ve loved it ever since.
What do you like best about working at INTEK?
Robert: I really like the guys I work with in my carpet cleaning service–we’re all pretty good friends.
Our customers are really good too. They love to see the changes we can make in the cleaning of their house, and they always really appreciate it when we show up. That makes us feel good about ourselves.
Tyler: You can stick around a while if you want to. Out of the six guys we have now–including myself–doing carpet, everyone’s been around for three years or more. We haven’t had a huge turnover rate for many years now.
What has been your experience working with customers?
Tyler: I have a lot of regular customers. Out of three or four jobs in a day, at least one of them requested me specifically. We get to know each other. They like that they don’t have to keep an eye on me. It’s peace of mind for them.
Robert: About half our customers are regulars; they know us by name. A lot of them request me or one of the other guys, and they really get to know us, asking about our kids and such.
The other half are new customers who maybe heard about us from one of our regulars. Many of them haven’t had their house cleaned in many years, so they’re always just happy to see what we can do for them.
Can you speak about the company’s working conditions?
Robert: I worked as a cashier for a few years, and that got really boring. This is a lot more exciting! The company treats us really well.
Tyler: I’ve been around the longest of anyone on the carpet cleaning team, so others sometimes look to me for help. I’ve talked to the owner and general manager about improving the business –things that work, things that don’t. For the most part, they take my advice.
What would you say to someone who was considering applying at INTEK?
Robert: If you’re a hard worker, if you’re willing to put in some hours–and they’re willing to give you as many hours as you want–INTEK is a great place to work.
They do treat us really well here; they take care of us. It seems like everyone is always happy to see us when we walk in. And once your prove yourself trustworthy, they have faith in you. There’s a lot of trust.
Tyler: It’s really rewarding if you stick with it. I would recommend it. We’re always in need of good workers!
