Chuck Schipper at INTEK CleaningFor this month’s employee spotlight, we spoke with Chuck Schipper, the indoor quality air manager for INTEK. He’s been here for thirteen years–and he has the know-how to prove it!

Discover Chuck’s best tips for duct and furnace cleaning below:

Tell us about your position at INTEK.

I am the indoor air quality manager. I do all the inspections for furnace and duct cleaning and mold remediation.

I’m sort of the project manager–I deal with customers, write the bids, and make sure everything is taken care of once the project is finished. Basically, I take care of everything that needs to be done–except the work itself. I have a crew of seven that does that.

Once a project is finished, I make sure the mold inspectors come to take a quality air check, ensure all equipment is picked up, and send the project over to INTEK Service First so they can make sure everything is returned to pre-loss condition.

How did you come to work here?

I grew up in Sioux Falls, left for the Navy in ’81, and moved back here after I retired from the Navy in 2001. INTEK was the third job interview I’d ever had–at 39 years old.

I thought I would go back into government work after a while, but I ended up staying at INTEK. I’ve now been here for 13 years!

What do you like best about working at INTEK?

The people are great. We’ve got a lot of good people at INTEK.

I also like that the work is always changing. You never know who’s gonna call or where you’re gonna go tomorrow. You have to be ready for anything at INTEK!

Do you have any tips on how to maintain your furnace?

The main thing people don’t do that they should is change their air filter every two months. Most of us use normal filters that need to be changed regularly.

Some customers are surprised to learn that the fancier air filters aren’t always better. Unless you have a dust allergy or something, a standard pleated filter will do.

If you’re concerned about your air quality, you can always contact INTEK for a free inspection. I’ll put our camera into your ductwork and show you exactly what it looks like. It’s a pretty short process–a lot of people just run home over their lunch hour.

What would you tell someone who was thinking about working at INTEK?

If you’re tired of the same old grind, come work with us!

It’s been a real blessing to work with INTEK. We’re like a family here. I started here right after I retired from the Navy, thinking it would be a temporary job–and now here I am!
