Take care of your vacuum between Intek visits!

In between Intek visits, your vacuum is your best friend when it comes to keeping your home clean, so it’s really important to take the best care that you can of your trusty vacuum.

How do you make sure that you’re doing everything you can to make sure your vacuum is doing everything it can?

After all, a well-cared for vacuum keeps your carpet so much cleaner. We have a couple of tips to keep your vacuum right as rain. If you realize that it’s time to get Intek on the scene to clean your carpets, don’t hesitate to give us a call!

For Vacuums with a Bag: Change the Bag Frequently

If your vacuum has a bag, make sure you’re switching it out when it’s roughly ⅔ full. If you wait until the bag is absolutely full, you may not be picking up everything you can because there just isn’t enough room in the bag to do so!

For example, if you notice that your vacuum is leaving behind quite a bit of debris that it normally wouldn’t, then it’s probably time to change the bag. If you’re noticing that it takes longer than normal to vacuum up your floor, then it’s probably time to change the bag.

Make sure that when you do take the time to switch out your vacuum’s bag that you find the bag that fits the best. You can usually find that on your vacuum or in your owner’s manual. When in doubt, you can always Google it.

The next thing to do is to make sure that the bag is correctly attached to your vacuum. If it’s not attached the right way, well, all kinds of things can go wrong, the biggest of which is just a big ol’ mess.

So make sure that you’re using the right bag, that it’s attached the right way, and that you’re not letting it get too full before you empty it out.

For Vacuums Without a Bag: Empty the Chamber Often

The same rule of thumb applies if your vacuum doesn’t have a bag—change that sucker (pun intended) often. Some people say that you should empty out the container after every use so that you can make sure your vacuum is working at its best at all times.

Just make sure that you’re emptying it out before it’s ⅔ full, and that when you do so, you’re also cleaning the filter. Usually, that just means knocking it against the trash can a few times to get rid of any loose debris and dirt and then taking a gentle object (like your finger) and brushing off the area between the slats of the filter. Some filters are even washable and that means cleaning them up is even easier.

Either way, make sure you’re giving proper attention to the filter just as much as the canister. Otherwise, your vacuum just won’t work as well.

For Both Vacuums: Make Sure The Brush Roll is Cleaned Too

If anybody in your house has hair longer than a pixie cut, chances are that that hair is getting sucked up into the brush roll and is getting wrapped around it over and over again. If hair, string, or really anything else, gets wrapped around the brush roll too many times, it can keep your vacuum from functioning properly because it will basically keep it from turning and that means it won’t do as great of a job cleaning your carpets.

Make sure to regularly check to make sure the brush roll on your vacuum is able to turn without trouble so that you can extend the amount of time between Intek visits.
