Cleaning can be overwhelming. Whether you own a large home or rent a smaller apartment, you may feel like you can never keep up amidst your busy life.

That overwhelming feeling only gets worse when you let the household chores pile up. Instead trying to do all of your cleaning at once, you can divide tasks out to do a little each day. That way, a clean home will always be more maintainable, and you can spread your deep cleaning sessions further apart!

Try out our daily cleaning hacks to stay on top of having a clean home.

1. Pick Up After Yourself Right Away

It sounds basic, and it’s something we tell our kids all the time. But how easy is it to leave that one dirty dish for later — only to come back to a sink full? Instead, just take 20 seconds to hand-wash it right away, or place it in the dishwasher. If you are running out the door and have to leave the dishes for later, just make a habit not to go to bed with dishes in the sink.

Did you just make dinner? Before sitting down to eat, take one minute to wipe down the counters, sweep your cooking crumbs off the floor, and put ingredients away. You’ll be able to relax and enjoy your meal.

Likewise, hang up that jacket you just tried on. Don’t just throw it on your chair! It only takes a few seconds to pick up after yourself right away, and you’ll thank yourself later.

2. Keep Cleaning Wipes Nearby

A handy place to keep cleaning wipes within reach is in each bathroom and the kitchen. It’s easy to give the sink a quick wipe-down after brushing your teeth if the wipes are already nearby. When you make a habit of wiping things down as needed, you won’t need to schedule a house-wide deep clean as frequently.

3. Clean the Bathroom While Your Kids Are Soaking

If your kids are old enough to play in the tub on their own (but young enough to have their parent with them during bathing), you can use this time to clean the toilet and the floors. This way, you can stay productive while still keeping an eye on your kiddos.

4. Clean the Shower While You Shower

Are you waiting for that deep conditioning treatment to set in, or maybe just enjoying the hot water? Keep a spray bottle in the shower so that you clean it while you’re in there on a regular basis. This will keep mildew and water stains from accumulating and will also keep you from having a big chore later on.

If you have glass shower doors, keep a squeegee in the shower and make a habit to clean the water off the doors each time before you get out.

5. Do One Thing a Day

Rather than doing a big cleaning project all at once, just do one thing a day. For example, maybe you can vacuum each Monday, wash the bedding each Tuesday, do a deeper clean of the kitchen on Wednesday, and so on.

Don’t forget to enlist the help of your family. Perhaps you can assign each child a daily chore they can handle to make your cleaning load more manageable.

6. Consider a Robot Vacuum

Robot vacuums, like Roomba, are quite popular these days. You can program it to run during the day when you’re at work so you don’t even notice it. This is an excellent way to stay on top of vacuuming without having to do the work yourself.

Just make sure to empty your robot vacuum on a regular basis! And, we don’t recommend this if you have a puppy who isn’t house trained — yikes!
